For: Web developers and integrators, interface designers, and website managers of public and private organisations.
Learning outcomes
- Take web standards (W3C, WCAG, WAI-ARIA) into account when designing an accessible interface.
- Audit the accessibility of an interface and prioritise corrections.
- Use WAI-ARIA only when no native HTML element is available.
Programme over 4 weeks
| Week | Content |
|---|---|
| Week 1 | WCAG 2.2: principles (perceivable, operable, understandable, robust), success criteria, levels A, AA and AAA. |
| Week 2 | WAI-ARIA: roles, states and properties; use it only when no native HTML element is available. |
| Week 3 | Accessibility testing: automated tools, keyboard navigation, screen reader, contrast. |
| Week 4 | Professional simulation: accessibility audit of a provided interface and a prioritised list of corrections, in a virtual lab. |
Assessment
Marked professional simulation in a virtual lab, assessed against a rubric (70%): accessibility audit of a provided interface, with prioritised corrections; online knowledge-check quiz (30%).
The certificate is awarded with a mark of at least 10 out of 20.
Optional: Bringing an Interface into Compliance
An additional 1-credit module over 2 weeks (CPP-14C), awarded as a separate certificate; together with this certificate, it makes up the full course component of the original programme.
- Corrections to an interface and a before/after report.
- Testing on real devices and over a slow network.
