- Collect metrics and logs from equipment using a secure management protocol.
- Define relevant indicators and alert thresholds.
Programme over 4 weeks
| Week | Content |
|---|---|
| Week 1 | Monitoring principles: probes, metrics, thresholds, dashboards and alerts; choosing what to monitor. |
| Week 2 | Equipment management protocols: SNMPv3 in preference to the unencrypted versions 1 and 2c; log collection, in an isolated virtual lab. |
| Week 3 | Indicators and alert thresholds: definition and tuning; monitoring dashboard for a lab infrastructure. |
| Week 4 | Professional simulation: monitoring of a supplied lab infrastructure, with justified indicators, thresholds and dashboard. |
Assessment
Marked professional simulation, assessed against a rubric (70%): monitoring of a supplied infrastructure in an isolated virtual lab; online knowledge-check quiz (30%). No exercise is carried out on a live system.
The certificate is awarded with a mark of at least 10 out of 20.
Optional: Alerts Adapted to Local Conditions
An additional 1-credit module over 2 weeks (CPP-20C), awarded as a separate certificate; together with this certificate, it makes up the full course component of the original programme.
- Alerts adapted to local conditions: notification by message to a phone.
- Handling incoming alerts: reading, prioritisation and threshold adjustment.
